Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.

When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”

Diavolo responds:

“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.

Along with how Diavolo describe his father.

It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.

Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.

Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.

His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.

The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.

Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

I know that this scene is about Shadow grappling with the fact he has alien DNA, but I feel like his thoughts in this scene are relatable to people with conditions like autism, BPD and NPD (not an exhaustive list) who struggle with feeling and being treated like an outcast or monster at times. For some, it’s because we struggle to operate in a world not designed for us. For others, it’s fighting against all the negative perceptions society has of us.

Shadow sees himself as a monster. But Maria assures him that just because he expresses himself differently, that doesn’t make him evil. I feel like especially for people who struggle with empathy, this really hits home. People often assume that people who struggle with empathy, whether cognitive or emotional, are heartless. And for those with personality disorders, they’re often treated as if they are abusive or manipulative just because of the disorder they have, even though people with said disorders are victims of trauma and abuse themselves.

I hope you all have a Maria in your lives. And if not, please remember that it’s your actions that define you, not your neurotype or disorder. If you struggle with socialising, or emotional regulation, or empathy, you’re not a monster. You’re strong for living in a world that so often seems to outcast and insult you. You’re strong for choosing to be as kind as you can be, even though so many people refuse to show that common courtesy in return. Even when you can’t be strong, you are not a monster.

Please be kind to yourselves. You deserve it.

Anyone down for more math? Well I was making a timeline and noticed some interesting things. For starters, L'manberg was only L'manberg for about 101 days, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t that long.

For comparison, Dream was tortured by Quackity for preaumanly 83 days, and Techno was in prison for about 100 days. So, Techno was in prison as long as the nation L'manberg was L'manberg (if you discount the 58 days of Manberg) and Tommy was in Exile for about 11 days. That means Dream was tortured 7.5 times longer than Tommy was in Exile and Techno spent 9 times longer than Tommy was in exile, in the prison. Tommy spent about 19 days in prison and It is estimated that Tommy spent 90 days in Limbo, which is slightly lower than Techno's stay in prison but a week more than Dream was being tortured for. Additionally, the next time we feel bad for Quackity we can remember that Schlatt only tormented him for less than 58 days, which is 25 days or about 3 and a half weeks less than he tortured Dream for. which is just... some perspective.

And here are some percentages for fun in relation to the 314 days Dream was in prison:

26% of his prison stay included torture

32% of his prison stay included Techno

6% of his prison stay included Tommy

Tommy's exile is about 3.5% of Dream’s total prison stay and 13% of Quackity's visits.

Further, if we combined Exile with Limbo to make Tommy's total “span of torment” then we'd get 101 which is close to how long Techno stayed in prison so about 32% of Dream's time in prison. Though perhaps to be fair we should add the 19 days of being in prison, bringing Tommy’s total “span of torment” to 120 days, which is about 38% of Dream’s total time spent in prison, but longer than L’manberg was L’manberg.

Finally, the dsmp lasted for (1081 days if we include the day they killed the ended dragon on April 10, 2023 or) 933 days if we go with November 13, 2022 (the first stream with the incident that happens at the same time as all the other finale lore). This means that L’manberg only existed for about 11% of the dsmp’s total existence, Tommy’s Exile was only a little over 1%, his “total torment” was 13%, Quackity’s torment under Schlatt was 6%, Quackity’s torture was 9% and Dream’s incarceration was 34% of the dsmp’s total existence. Which is all just… interesting…
